From the food our residents eat to the treatments they receive, care is a holistic effort in our communities. That’s why it’s important for our teams to maintain a diverse set of skills: housekeeping, maintenance, dietician, and of course, nursing. Each department plays a vital role in a resident’s treatment.
So, when a Ciena team member takes the initiative to understand each aspect of care, they’re empowered to do so.
Careers dedicated to care
Enter Haley, who first joined our team as an activity assistant – a role dedicated to building a fun environment that helps meet our residents’ physical and mental needs.
Haley quickly realized how small moments in an activity can make all the difference in a resident’s stay, such as a little laughter in a conversation. Wanting to explore more ways to care, her team members empowered her to cross-train in other departments.
I was drawn to the opportunity to bring joy and engagement to our residents’ daily routines

Cross-training in a healthcare career
In the kitchen, she saw the direct connection between nutrition and a resident’s happiness. In housekeeping duties, she picked up on the importance of maintaining a clean, safe environment to support residents’ well-being.
A little over one year after joining Ciena, she made a big decision. With all the knowledge she picked up with our teams, Haley earned her nursing certification.
“Now, as an STNA, I combine all those lessons – understanding that caregiving means caring for the whole person: mind, body, and spirit.” she said.
It means a great deal to know that I’m part of a company that truly believes in developing its people.
- Haley H., STNA
Care careers committed to growth
For Haley, few moments represent the hours of hard work, learning, and mentorship like earning her nursing certification. Transitioning into an STNA puts her in a prime position to build an impactful career that feeds into her passion for care.
Helping our team members discover their purpose is a commitment, and we’re proud of caregivers like Haley for taking full advantage of the resources our communities offer.
Stay compassionate, be patient, and never stop growing – you’ll find purpose and fulfillment in ways you never expected.
