The Restorative Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for carrying out restorative nursing programs and individualized resident care plans under the supervision of licensed nursing staff. This role focuses on maintaining and enhancing residents’ independence, mobility, physical function, and quality of life through consistent implementation of restorative interventions. The Restorative CNA works collaboratively with nursing, therapy, and interdisciplinary team members to promote optimal resident outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential functions of this position include the following. This list is not intended to be exclusive or exhaustive. There may be additional essential functions based on the unique nature of the position or environment.
- Implements restorative programs as directed by nursing and therapy, including but not limited to ambulation, range of motion (active and passive), transfers, bed mobility, splint and brace assistance, and activities of daily living (ADL) retraining.
- Provide encouragement and emotional support to residents, promoting participation and independence.
- Assist residents with mobility, transfers, and position using proper body mechanics and lift equipment as applicable.
- Provide direct resident care, including assistance with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, incontinent care as applicable, oral hygiene and feeding as needed.
- Measure and record vital signs, weight, percentage of meal consumed intake/output as directed.
- Respond promptly to call lights, resident needs, and changes in condition; report observations to licensed nursing staff.
- Support residents’ independence and dignity, while ensuring safety and comfort
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation and in accordance with facility procedures
- Follow infection control, safety, and universal precaution guidelines at all times.
- Maintains a clean, safe and comfortable environment
- Make routine rounds on each assigned residents.
- Provides skin care and observes residents’ skin when giving care and reports changes to licensed nurse.
- Contributes to the residents’ assessment (MDS/CAA’s) and the plan of care.
- Promote residents’ ability to adapt and adjust to living as independently as possible.
- Assists the resident in self-care according to the resident’s abilities.
- Assists the residents in the use of assistive devices for transferring, walking and mobility, dressing and grooming, eating and swallowing.
- Maintains range of motion, proper turning and positioning in bed and chair.
- Assists with bowel and bladder retraining.
- Assists residents with the care and use of prosthetic and orthotic devices.
- Incorporates training and skill practice activities, which include repetition, physical or verbal cueing, and task segmentation.
- Accurately document restorative activities, resident progress, and responses per facility policy and regulatory requirements.
- Report changes in residents’ condition or participation to licensed nurse or therapy staff promptly.
- Monitor and maintain proper function of restorative equipment and promptly report issues.
- Participates in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement initiatives as directed.
- Cares for residents with Dementia
- Knows how to respond to residents’ behaviors.
- Allows residents to make personal choices.
- Provides and reinforces other behavior consistent with residents’ dignity.
- Uses the resident’s families as a source of emotional support for the resident.
- Demonstrates a basic understanding of behavior and functional symptoms associated with dementia by providing interventions and treatments to help reduce these symptoms.
- Use modification in the presentation of activities of daily living to maintain and maximize resident functions.
- Use effective intervention techniques to address behavioral concerns.
- Assists with transporting residents to activities.
- Demonstrates effective communication techniques for residents with dementia.
- Provides non-resident care including but not limited to:
- Wash wheelchairs.
- Cleaning soiled utility areas.
- Cleaning shower and whirlpool rooms.
- Cleaning kitchen areas on the nursing unit.
- Performs other duties assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience:
- High School Graduate/GED
- At least one year of CNA experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Restorative care experience preferred.
- Successful completion of restorative competency.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant/STNA in good standing with the certification board
Minimum Qualifications:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to express self adequately in written and oral communication and to communicate effectively in an interdisciplinary care setting with residents, families, and staff members.
- Ability to follow restorative care plans and instructions from nursing/therapy.
- Computer skills are required.
- Meets all state and federal criminal background check requirements.
