The Safety Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing safety, risk management, and emergency preparedness programs across all managed facilities. This role ensures compliance with CMS, OSHA, Life Safety Code (LSC), and state regulations while reducing risk to residents, staff, and visitors. The Safety Manager plays a critical role in incident prevention, and fostering a culture of safety within the skilled nursing environment.

Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, CMS, state health department, and local safety regulations.
- Monitor and interpret regulatory changes affecting long-term care safety and risk management.
- Lead preparation for surveys, audits, and inspections; support facilities during corrective action plans.
- Conduct incident investigations (employee injuries, resident accidents, near misses) and recommend preventive measures.
Safety Programs & Policies
- Develop, implement, and maintain system-wide safety policies and procedures.
- Oversee workplace safety programs including hazard communication, infection prevention support, ergonomics, fire safety, and emergency preparedness.
- Support compliance with life safety codes, disaster preparedness, and evacuation plans.
Training & Education
- Design and deliver safety training for staff, leadership, and contractors.
- Ensure required safety trainings are completed and documented across all facilities.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for safety-related questions and best practices.
Audits & Inspections
- Conduct routine and unannounced safety audits of facilities - up 80% of the Safety Manager’s time is spent in facilities.
- Identify hazards and work with facility leadership to implement corrective actions.
- Track and report safety metrics, trends, and improvement initiatives.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Partner with administrators, DONs, HR, Infection Preventionists, and maintenance teams.
- Support workers’ compensation claims management and return-to-work initiatives.
- Promote a proactive safety culture across all locations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Risk Management, Human Resources, or related field preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in workers’ compensation administration and/or occupational safety, preferably in healthcare, long-term care, or nursing home settings.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, workers’ compensation laws, and best practices in workplace safety.
- Experience managing claims, safety programs, and return-to-work initiatives.
- Certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), or OSHA Training credentials is a plus.
