The many dynamics of care
Ciena communities provide care for residents of diverse backgrounds and walks of life. No two care plans are alike for each individual person. To best meet the needs of residents, it serves them best to have a team that reflects their diversity.
Ashley W., HR Coordinator, understands how important this equity is in shaping outcomes for our employees and the people they care for.
Community influence
Now an HR Coordinator for over two years, Ashley focuses on supporting our patient care team – reducing burnout, minimizing medical errors, and encouraging a sustainable working environment. Seeing the results of what she does, and how they can improve outcomes for both our caregivers and their residents, is a large part of why she pivoted to healthcare.
By directly influencing the quality of life for both seniors and recovering residents, Ashley’s passion for making a positive impact literally changes lives.
“My journey into healthcare wasn’t just a career decision. It was a calling rooted in people, purpose, and impact.”
Representation in care
As a Black leader in healthcare, Ashley’s perspective can play a critical role in how residents across all backgrounds receive care. Building deeper trust, meaningful communication, supporting residents results – when leadership reflects the communities they serve, it often leads to improvements across the board.
“Who delivers care influences how care is received, trusted, and experienced.”
Of course, diversity in healthcare doesn’t stop with one person. When asked on her advice for tomorrow’s Black healthcare professionals, Ashley keys in on the importance of networking, connection, and advocacy.
Your voice matters. Your presence matters. And your leadership can help shape the future of healthcare
- Ashley W., HR Coordinator
Commitment and conversation
When Ashley pivoted to healthcare, she had her pick of employers. Ciena stood out among the rest. She understood the importance of long-term and skilled nursing care and noticed our team’s commitment to empowering diverse voices.
“Employees are heard, valued, and encouraged to contribute ideas.”
We’re honored to have leadership like hers play a big role in the lives of our team members, residents, and communities. Ashley is one of many people pushing healthcare forward, for everyone, while building a workplace that supports each staff member to the fullest. As we continue celebrating and honoring Black History Month, she shared what the month means to her and why it’s more important than ever.
“Celebrating Black History Month and honoring cultural heritage allows staff to better understand traditions, respect historical context, and improve communication. When residents feel culturally respected, their satisfaction and emotional well-being improve – and that is central to long-term care.”
